The Power of Independence
The following posts will introduce you to the Power of Independence, what it means, and how to achieve it. Independence can be a difficult subject to discuss. We all inherently know that achieving independence is a good thing. After all, many of our social and political role models are textbook examples of the virtues of independent living. However, while we “know” what independence is in the abstract, many of us have trouble applying that abstract concept to our personal lives. There is very little reason why this should be.
When you think about it, we all enter this world independently. Yes, we gestated in our mother’s womb. However, the act of being born is something that we experience alone. The very act of becoming a viable human being involves leaving perhaps the closest connection that any of us will ever experience. We sever this connection (or are severed from this connection) and enter the world alone. Does this experience predispose some of us to fear the necessarily solitary nature of independence?
That question is probably largely unanswerable. However, it does serve to frame the issue that troubles many when it comes to independence. There appears to be, at least in some, an innate fear of being alone. This fear can be so strong that some people will do almost anything to avoid being on their own. They will forego opportunity that comes their way and they will reject obvious benefits. They will even actively promote behaviors that are detrimental to their interests. No matter your opinion on the subject of independence, all can agree that this is a negative behavior.
Hence, the purpose of this exercise.
The aim here is to establish in the mind of the reader that independence is not only the desired state, it is also a necessary state. There is no way to fully reach your individual potential without having developed a measure of personal independence. There is no way to truly succeed unless you do so on your own. There is no way to really discover who you are as a person and realize what you are capable of unless you stand on your own two feet. In short, independence is not negotiable. It is a requirement for a full and happy life.
In the following days, we’re going to discover the real secrets that can help you develop the independence that you need to succeed in life. We’ll begin by looking at the nature of independence. We’ll define what it is and why it is important. You’ll learn that there’s nothing wrong with getting help, but there are times when you must rely on yourself.
Next, we’ll look at the process of developing self-trust and how trust in yourself leads to true independence. We’ll examine the concepts of positivity and confidence and how they relate to trust. We’ll show you how to become more confident and develop the positive attitude that leads to self-assurance and, ultimately, personal freedom.
Finally, we’ll show you how to stand firmly on your own two feet. You’ll learn the actionable techniques that lead to increased independence. You’ll discover the tips that lead you to trust your instincts and abilities. You’ll discover how to become constructively assertive. Finally, you’ll learn how to become more independent in various real-world situations – at work, at school, in a relationship, and financially.
There is no need to fear independence and there are a great number of reasons why you should embrace it. When you can stand on your own two feet with confidence but not with arrogance, you can reach out and engage in life fully and deeply. Your positivity demonstrates to others that you are respectful of others, but you are also respectful of yourself. Your innate trust in your abilities and your decisions, allows you to cut through the clutter and interference and obtain the desired result.
Being alone does not mean lonely, just as being dependent does not equal security. You entered into this life on your own. You will also leave this world equally alone. These two important journeys are solo missions. In between these solitary bookends, there are a great many opportunities to connect with others and mutually enrich the lives of everyone involved. There are also a great many enriching moments that can only be achieved and experienced through independence. There is no need to forego one for the other or to fear one and embrace the other.
True happiness and fulfillment are found through a balance of these two equities. So, if you’re ready, let’s start on the journey towards greater independence and the rewards that it brings.
